SO Swimmers

The sport of swimming is for life, it's never to late to start. Regardless of whether you're swimming for fitness or competition we want to inspire and support you to be the swimmer you want to be. The below pathway aims to help you navigate your journey.

Swimmers Progression Pathway

Regional Athlete Development Program (RADS)

All around the region our swimmers, supported by their parents, are spending early mornings and late evenings training to be the best they can be. These swimmers train upwards of 15 hours per week and compete at swimming meets hosted throughout the region, striving to swim PBs, qualify for National events and the opportunity to represent New Zealand in the future. Swimming Otago is committed to helping our swimmers achieve their goals and based on the success we’ve seen in other sports, we believe the establishment of a Regional Athlete Development Squad structure will bridge that gap.

FOR OUR SWIMMERS It’s hard to bridge that gap, that massive space between Club swimming and becoming a Regional or National Champion, let alone making it onto an elite Aquablacks team. And it’s often difficult to understand what is required to take that step, to make that commitment and take a shot at making it on the big stage. We’ve got the passion and expertise, we’re confident our Regional Athlete Development Squad structure will be the missing link.

Our first round of squads members are to be announced mid July 2018. Details of the full program and selection criteria can be found here
