Secondary School Championships

Wasn't it fantastic to finally be back racing!

Congratulations to all those secondary school students who attended the Otago Secondary School Championships on Sunday, it was an exciting morning of racing to kick off the new season.

Seventeen (17) Secondary Schools from across the region were represented by 70+ students. This was down from previous years, but to be expected given our current climate. However, it made for some fast-paced back-to-back racing which was a joy to watch.

In addition to Top 3 placings, there were Secondary School Records up for grabs. These records have only recently been introduced to the Championships and it was a treat to see so many be broken again this year.

We are starting to see the implications of the new Secondary School pathway, facilitating a number of students who are not affiliated to a swimming club to be able to compete at Secondary School Championships. This year ten students competed using this membership category, which is an increase of over 50% on last years participation. This initiative offers Hgh School students the opportunity to represent their school in the sport of swimming by removing additional financial barriers, eliminating any fees associated with the membership category.

Finally, a shout out to our incredible Technical Officials. Without your support, we wouldn't be able to offer these racing opportunities to our community. And a huge thank you for those parents who put their hand up to time keep, your contribution does not go unnoticed!

We look forward to doing it all again next year, bring a mate, they'll love it!
