Otago LC Championships

The new format of our Regional Long Course Championships was a hit amongst our members and it was reflected in their swimming. Congratulations to our athletes and Coaches, your continued dedication to your training has shone through in the results over the three days of competition.

A total of 368 medals were presented thoughtout the competition, Clara Peniamina of Kiwi ASC taking home 10 Gold and 1 Silver and to top off an extraordinairy meet was awarded the Neptune Jubilee Cup (female 10-11yrs most points) and the McArthur Cup (female 10-11yrs aggregate breastroke), congratulations. The males weren't to be out done, with another Kiwi ASC member Ryan Dey taking home a full set of medals, 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze along with the Otago Centre Trophy (male 12-13yrs most points).

Over the course of the competition there were four Regional Long Course Records broken;

Levi Heffernan, Oamaru Swimming Club, continued his great form in obtaining the male 11 & under 400m freestyle record in a new time of 5:01.30 bettering the old mark held by Sam Caradus by 2.15 seconds. Sam's record has stood since February 1995 (5:03.45). 

Erika Fairweather, Neptune Swim Club, continues to impress bettering her own female 14yrs 100m backstroke reocrd in a new time of 1:07.02.

And Jessica Scott, Neptune Swim Club, continues to improve in her preferred stroke, obtaining the female 50m  buttefly record in a new time of 29.31 from previous holder Aleisha Ruske (29.71) and the female 100m butterfly record in a time of 1:05.01, bettering former holder Elizabeth Van Welie's time of 1:05.85 held since 1996.
