Australian State Short Course Championships

The 2018 Australian State Age Short Course Championships was held at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra, over three days. Included in a forty strong New Zealand team was our very own Madison Wills (Kiwi Swim Club), Jessica Scott (Neptune Swim Club) and Kurt Crosland (Swim Dunedin) as part of the coaching staff.

The competition pits teams of some of the best up and coming age group swimmers from each Australian State, and one team from New Zealand, against each other, giving athletes a taste of high-level competition in a fun and exciting, team orientated format. This meet is an essential competition at the base of Swimming New Zealand’s high-performance swimmer pathway. The New Zealand representative team members were selected from swimmers who had satisfied the selection criteria and were made based on their individual performances at the 2018 NZ Age Group Championships.

Highlighting the girls mixed bag of results was Jessica Scott's Otago Open SC Record in the 50m Butterfly in a new time of 28.10 (to be ratified), lowering her own record of 28.29 obtained in August 2017. Jessica was also selected for the 15-16 female 4 x 100m freestyle relay, scoring valuable points for Team NZ.
